Caroline
Smith
Current SMOi missionary in southern Peru
until July 2010
SWO servant team 2006, summer staff 2007, 2008,
2009
Birthday: October 28
History:
Caroline can't remember a time she wasn't involved in
ministry. Raised in a Christian home, she regularly attended
church with her family and received Christ at the age of 8
and shortly afterwards, she was baptized. While she
remembers seeing her parents read the Bible and even having
family devotions, she doesn't remember ever being challenged
to grow in discipleship until she was older and in the youth
group. Her youth group began attending Snowbird each summer
and it was there that she realized that she must grow in her
walk with the Lord.
During high school, a lot happened, including the death of
her best friend, that challenged Caroline's faith, and it
was during that time that she began to sense a call to
ministry. Although she had only begun to sense the Lord's
call on her life, she began to see it play out in her life,
and it was during her time at North Greenville University
that the Lord began to confirm more and more in her mind the
call to ministry.
Caroline is on the leadership team at her school's BCM, and
she coordinates local teams to go out in to the Greenville
area and minister in various churches, downtown with the
homeless, and in various after-school programs. For
Caroline, the call to ministry and missions has been made
obvious over time as the Lord has shaved and removed any
other desire to do anything else. Caroline has served in
Hungary and China on short-term mission trips, and it was
while she was in China that she heard about the Barnabas
Team in Peru. Immediately her interest rose and when she
returned to the States, she began pursuing the team. As
everything seemed to fall into place for the Barnabas Team,
Caroline began preparing for her summer in Peru.

Strategy:
Mission dates: May 24-July 15, 2010
As the church begins to "send"
missionaries, she must also understand that this support
does not end with merely financial support. Emotional and
spiritual encouragement both play a huge role in the
church's responsibility to its missionaries. This is exactly
what Caroline will be doing while in Peru for the summer of
2010.
ReapSouth (www.reapsouth.org),
the organization Caroline will be working through, works
with churches from the U.S. to "adopt" the mountain villages
of Peru. ReapSouth then sends out summer teams to do
anything from teaching ESL to researching the needs and
culture of the people groups in order to aid the church's
long-term relationship with the people. Through the
ReapSouth organization based in Lima, Caroline, along with
two others, will be traveling to each of the ReapSouth teams
for the purpose of encouraging and ministering to the team
members as they work in the mountain villages of Peru. The
name of her team is called the "Barnabas Team."
Support:
Caroline already has all the financial support she needs.
Thanks for giving.
