Mandy's blog

History:

Mandy was born into a Christian family in Tampa, Florida. She truly gave her life to the Lord at the age of 13. She knew after that life changing experience that her life would never be “normal.” At Bible school when she was 19, Mandy gave her life to be a missionary not knowing where, when, or how.

In 2003, Mandy worked as a summer missionary on the Nantahala River in North Carolina where her family now lives. While working on the river she found out about a youth camp near by called Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters. This place changed her life. She worked at Snowbird the summers of 2004 and 2005. It was through Snowbird that Mandy was able to visit the country of Honduras for the first time.

After a missions trip to Israel in 1997, Mandy always thought she would end up back in the Middle East somewhere, but apparently God had a different plan. In 2004, Mandy went on a mission's trip with Snowbird to visit an orphanage in Honduras . It was during this trip that she received her calling. God spoke to Mandy through Genesis 12:1 where God told Abraham to leave his home and family and "go to the land that I [God] will show you." Honduras was the land shown to Mandy by God. She knew after this trip that she was to go back to Honduras indefinitely. Mandy understands that her life is not her own. She is God's vessel here to serve the precious people of Honduras . She has been in Honduras since 2005 and never plans on leaving in this lifetime.

Strategy:

Mandy's calling in Honduras is to work with the youth. She saw while working in the orphanage that children raised in orphanages are not prepared for the real world when they turn 18 and are legally allowed to leave. Mandy will be starting a transition house called The Branch where young girls can come and live, be discipled, finish their studies, learn how to budget money, receive classes such as English; midwifery; etiquette; and, of course, the Bible. The ministry Mandy is under is called Cedar Ministries: Seeds of Change located in Valle de Angeles, Honduras, just 30 minutes from the capital, Tegucigalpa. This ministry is just getting started as they are still looking for land and praying for finances.

The goals of Cedar Ministries will be to have a clinic, a birthing center, a church, a youth/community center, the transition house, and holding houses for children (orphans) to live in temporarily while they find families to adopt the children. While they wait on God to lead and provide, Mandy, along with her other 2 missions partners, already have a women's Bible study group, a youth Bible study group, 3 transition youth, a feeding project and English classes at a local elementary school. Please read these scriptures: Psalm 68:6; John 15; Ezekiel 17.

Mandy's main goal is to stand before her Lord one day and hear not only, "Well done my good and faithful servant," but also “Whatever you did to the least of these, you have done unto Me. Orphans and widows are First in My Kingdom and you, My servant, have made them your life on earth. Please enter, for GREAT is your reward.”
