Matt Clark

Former SMOi missionaries in Tanzania March 2004-January 2006
SWO summer staff 2002, 2006
Birthday: July 24

History:

Matt's career as a missionary began when he went off to live in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for two years with the International Mission Board from 2004 to 2006. Tanzania is in East Africa and Dar es Salaam is home to one of the largest universities in East Africa. He went there to be a part of a student ministry team to help evangelize and disciple some of the brightest minds in East Africa. Some of the students that graduate from the University of Dar es Salaam inevitably become the leaders of the country. Our strategy was to raise up Godly men and women to become leaders in the church; so, upon graduation, they could go back to their homes all over East Africa to spread the Gospel to their individual communities.

The Lord really used some amazing experiences in Africa to sharpen Matt's character and have him more fully rely on God in every area of his life. Upon coming back to the US Matt started seminary at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary to pursue a Masters of Arts in Intercultural Studies. During this time in Wake Forest God lead him to meet Alicia, who became his wife on December 29th, 2007. Alicia has had international ministry experience in Peru and the Dominican Republic.

Strategy:

Matt is now working with international missions, but from this side of the ocean. He works at Summit Church in Durham, NC as a ministry assistant to the Community and Church Planting ministry. There are lots of exciting things going on with missions in their church, including the creation of a Church Planting Center where they are training people to plant churches or be a part of church plants.
