Tivis

Former SMOi missionary in South Asia May-July 2009
SWO summer staff 2007, 2008

History:

Tivis was raised all over the U.S. due to her mother's career as a soldier. At age 8 she was convicted to let go and give her life over to serve God. Since then, God has matured her and shared His heart with her. Currently a senior at Western Carolina University, she's studying to be a Christian filmmaker. It's her hope to create a stronger Christian influence in Hollywood in order to reach people and influence believers. Tivis believes that as God's followers we have so many impacting and true accounts of our faith to share.

Tivis' overseas missions experience includes her stay during 2006 in a deaf village in Jamaica. Through sign language she developed friendships with the younger women and encouraged their faith. Over the last few years she's heard numerous stories from South Asia and their severe persecution for following Jesus. Tivis has often thought how the church in America should see their South Asian brothers and sisters and their passion for Christ. She has even hoped to make a film of it at some point. During the summer of 2008, in her time with the Lord, she felt a whisper on her heart, “Pray about going to *****.” [country name not given for security purposes]

Afterwards, Tivis began making new contacts and gaining more knowledge about the country. During the summers of 2007 and 2008 she worked at a Christian wilderness camp called Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters in Andrews, NC. Through this ministry she met a missionary that had recently returned from the jungles of Peru. He pointed Tivis to a contact in a mission organization after she told him of her interest in South Asia. The contact was a young lady who directed Tivis to apply through the mission organization to a particular team. Since Tivis wanted to go to unreached people groups, the lady thought it would be a good fit for her. Now, she has an opportunity to trek the South Asian mountains, taking the Gospel to people who have never heard of Jesus.

Strategy:

Dates of mission: May-July, 2009

Tivis was on a team who's purpose is to take the news of Christ to those who have never heard it. They were traveling from community to community trekking the South Asian mountains to various people groups. She was in the area of the world that carries the highest numbers of unreached people groups.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray that God would reveal ways in which you can help me build this bridge of understanding and zeal for the Lord.
  • Pray for the South Asian people's of hearts - that God would prepare them to hear and accept the truths of Jesus.
  • Pray for our team and those God has appointed to go.
  • Pray for their protection.
  • Pray the Gospel would be shared clearly and that they'd be wise as serpents and innocent as doves (Matt. 10:16).
